I really should do more of this…

Why is it that when I revisit a soothing task like hand quilting, hand applique or even hand piecing do I find myself wondering why I don't do more? It surprises me every time!

I have tried to do a little hand-quilting everyday and have already completed 3 of the 9 blocks before I have to decide on a design for the border.

I’m really enjoying the rhythm of stitching and seeing this quilt transform into one with texture and interest.

Until next time...♥

Festival of Quilts 2013

I'm home and recovering from a wonderful day at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham.  It was a great day enjoyed with Lynda and DD1.  I know people get worried about showing quilts from the shows, but I hope I won’t offend anyone by showing some of the little details that really caught my eye.  …Hopefully by not showing the entire quilt I won’t get into trouble! :o)

I really enjoyed seeing the traditional quilts and the high level of skill in each piece.  There were more quilts with hand quilting than I recall from the past and it was a delight to see so much handwork.

Those quilts that had machine work or long-arm work were sympathetic to the design of the overall quilts.  I was glad to see less all over long arming which was in favour a few years ago and more creative use of space and shape.

"Stardust" pieced by Helen Brookham quilted by Sandy Chandler
(Received highly commended and judges choice awards)
"Grace" quilted by Sandy Chandler
(Received second place award)
The only negative I could see is that it seemed like there were less quilts on display than in the past and the second hall seem under used.  I was disappointed to see the children's quilts off in a corner on their own at the back of the second hall...  In my opinion they should have been in the main hall with the rest.  Minor observations for an otherwise fabulous day!

And speaking of fabulous… One last highlight of the day... I met Tula Pink.  In fact I did the whole celebrity thing and startled her as I jumped in front of her path as she walked by in the crowd..  I never thought of myself as someone that would do that, but before my brain engaged there I was shouting, “It’s YOU, Tula Pink!!”  LOL  She was very sweet and took the time to chat and I got the mandatory picture as proof.

I'm so glad I had been a last minute decision to go but as it has been 4 years since I last attended the show for one reason or another I was overdue to visit.  Hopefully, I won't leave it another 4 years before I visit again.  :o)

Until next time...♥

Pembrokeshire Coast…

I've had this post in my head for about a week and finally got a short moment at the computer to share with you some of the wonderful scenes from our one week holiday on the Pembrokeshire Coast.

We were very lucky with the good weather and it made it easy to keep busy in the great outdoors.  Our first day we walked from the campsite just outside St. David’s to the coastal path and were greeted with stunning scenes of the coast line.

During our week we visited Cardigan, home of the giant cardigan..but also home to my ancestors that travelled to New Brunswick in 1819 to build and settle Cardigan in Canada.  It was lovely to visit and take in the little shops along the high street.  We found a wonderful used book shop which had a great selection of books.  Not one of us left empty handed!

Another day took us to the seaside retreat of Porthgain.  This turned out to be a highlight of the week with a beautiful clear views out to sea.  We sat by the factory ruins and enjoyed a picnic lunch without a care in the world.

There was an art gallery there too, but unfortunately it was closed, but this Celtic piece sat outside and caught my eye…wouldn’t that Celtic design be fantastic in fabric!

The rest of the time we took to the beaches.  Broad Haven was my favourite of the three we visited with beach as far as the eye could see.

I took my campervan bag where ever I went and even had a lady chase me down to compliment me on it…that was a treat!  I’ll have it with me tomorrow (Thursday) at the NEC for the Festival of Quilts so if you spy it, don’t be shy and come over and say hello :o)

Until next time...♥
