I've really been enjoying the applique blocks from the Just Take 2 quilt and have completed the latest ones. The challenge with this first one is that it needs to be exactly 6” from tip to tip… and it is :o) I haven’t trimmed it up yet, but I have taken a ruler to it and I think I’ve got it exactly where it needs it to be.
Next is this Star and Crescent Block. The original instructions have you applique the large circle, then the little white circle and then finally the star. I wasn’t sure I could get my star to fit just right, so I opted to applique the star to the white fabric and then cut my circle template for the white fabric to match the diameter of the star. It worked very effectively and I’m really pleased with the results.
Now this last block I finished awhile back and cannot recall if I posted about it. This was almost a cut away Hawaiian style, but I opted to use fusible Floriani Stitch and Wash to draw the design and fuse it to the wrong side of the fabric. I trimmed the fabric with a 1/4” seam allowance and then needle turned the allowance down as I stitched. The ridged edge of the stabilizer is just enough to indicate the edge and stops you from turning under too much. For this type of applique it worked perfectly!
Until next time...♥
