May Flowers

My grandmother's favourite flower was Lily of the Valley.  It's in full bloom in the garden and I brought a little in to remember her...without her I don't think I would have the same passion for sewing and baking as I do.  I have very fond memories of being in her kitchen making pastry (a real privileged..she never let anyone in the kitchen!!) and wearing clothes she made for me.

Until next time...

Lily of the Valley reminds me of my grandmother too, as she had a huge patch of them behind her house. Mine here are just starting to bloom. :0)

I am going to go and cut some Lily of Valley from my garden. I think Duchess of Cambridge had some in her bouquet.

We had lots of them at my family's garden in Massachusetts but I haven't had any luck with them down south. Thanks for reminding me to check on them again this spring!

There must be something about Grandmothers and Lily of the Valley. Mine also had a big patch at the side of her front porch. And since I was born in May, it's my favorite too. Some years back a dear friend let me come over and thin out her patch. She passed away and now every time I look at my flowers, I think of her. If I ever move from my house, I'm going to HAVE to dig some of them up and take them with me.

Mmmmm... I think I can almost smell it's sweet scent from here, Jane. What lovely memories to have of your grandmother.

Hope you had a lovely Mother's Day!

Just found your blog via flickr photo scavenger group. You have made some beautiful things. Makes me want to have another go at quilting - I have an UFO which must be over 35 years old! I started it as a child and never finished it - now can't decide whether to start again with it or just keep it in the cupboard! I am missing my lily of the valley this year - my husband buried them when he put his greenhouse up! Must get some more.
