Every so often...

I like to share videos that I have found on the Internet that are funny or particular...

I'm amazed by this guy's dexterity and the amount of hours of practise he must have put in to master moving an inanimate object with the skill he does....Enjoy!

Pretty Flower Pictures

My neighbour has a beautiful garden and when they are away it is our task to keep things watered...and do our best not to kill anything or let anything die!!  (No pressure!!)  :o)  Well, as it happened, one of their plants went into full bloom while they were away, so I grabbed a few pics to capture the moment.  I'm sure they won't mind if I share them with you.  Don't ask me what the flower is...as you know I'm no gardener!! LOL  I'm sure one of you will know the answer and post it in the comments.

A little more sewing going on...

Jumping on the gathered clutch wagon..I have made two clutches using Noodlehead's Tutorial.  It was so easy to put together and the zip with the fabrics ends finished it perfectly.  You can see a wonderful assortment of clutches here on flickr.

I also went on a luggage tag making spree so our bags would look amazing and identifiable on the luggage carousel.  If they survive the trip..and I remember, I'll tell you how I made them...

Bon Voyage!

A Tasty Treat...

A quick dessert idea for you...Easy as pie raspberry parfait!
Using ready to roll puff pastry, cut the sheet into 3 pieces.  Bake for 15 minutes on a cookie sheet until golden brown.  Allow to cool on a wire rack.  Then layer the pastry with whipped cream which has been sweetened with a little icing sugar and fresh raspberries (or strawberries...) and dust top with more icing sugar.  Serve up to your guests as a quick and easy treat.

Upon my daughter's request...a NEW Sun Hat...

Would you believe that the original hat post in 2007 is the most popular post on my blog?  I wonder if this post will be as popular?  LOL  I have made my daughter a NEW sun hat.  She wanted something that she could wear when she was wearing a pony tail.  Once again I used the Wildthings software to draft the pattern and I'm thrilled with it.  I think the only thing I might do differently next time would be to make the length of the wedges a little longer...but other than that it is a perfect fit!

Just love the bunnies on the fabric!!

Book, books and more glorious books in Hay - on - Wye

Do you remember the post where I told you about an amazing bookshop in Morecambe Bay?  Well, following that trip Anne told me how Hay - on - Wye is famous for its bookshops and I knew one day I'd like to visit.  There are 30 different used and new book shops in the area some as packed full as that one up north...but with only one day to visit and a 7 year old in tow - we didn't manage them all!

Why is it that where ever you travel, lunch seems to be the first thing you do!?  Failing to find a picnic bench we sat under this bridge...The photographer in me was captivated by the leading lines...

Next we visited several book shops..and had so much fun digging around looking for lost treasures.

I found another old-fashion cook book that dated back to 1934..I feel some cookery experimentation is in my future!

These books were in a shed and were up for a bargain price of £1 for hardbacks, 50p for softbacks.  Some old, some new and some very weird topics...Like the one in the above pic...cryogenics and refrigeration!!

I certainly would love to visit again and if you can manage it and you are a book lover then it is a lovely day out.

A Sweet Quilt...

My cousin recently had a baby and as you know, all babies need a quilt.  I did 16 - 12" simple curved pieced blocks using the Sharon Schamber method of Piec-lique.  Here is a link to a PDF on her site that explains the method.  I did mine drunkard's path style instead of a whole circle as I wanted more variety, but the method works the same.  All the fabrics are floral and the end result was a soft muted design that had that "Cath Kidston" feeling.  I am thrilled with how it turned out and would love to make another one to keep.  I'll just have to add it to the list!!

Oh and by the way..this is my 400th post!!  Hmmm I'm going to have to think of a way to mark the occasion!

A Closer Look...

I had a few people comment on "big stitch" quilting in my last post and I realized that the picture didn't really show off the quilting very well.  So here is a closer look.  I'm almost finished the centre portion of the quilt and then I can move into the borders.  This quilt just might get finished before the end of summer!

A Little Quilting...

Just in case you wondered if there was any sewing and quilting going on..let me post some evidence that there is indeed some quilting going on!  I'm big stitching this zigzag quilt with perle cotton and it is coming together very quickly.  I forgot how much I love hand quilting..I must do more!
