Why my holiday ended early...

video

The sound you hear that sounds like crunching paper is actually rain hitting against the tent. The wind was so fierce that it was pushing the sides of the tent inwards and lifting the tent and the pegs out of the ground. The seams of the tent were pulling so much we could see daylight through them and felt the tent was nearing the point of ripping. Shortly after this video was taken we packed up and left Wales, the wet and the wind...

Until next time...

Wow! Glad you made it out of there OK! I don't blame you for leaving early! I had a similar experience when I was young except in my case, the corner of the tent actually crashed in on top of me! Luckily no damage was done to me and only minor damage to the tent. :0)

So sorry you had to cut short your holiday, Jane, but glad you're all OK! If its any consolation we've been having the same weather here in Brittany - absolutely grim!!!.....Luv AJ

The one time I got my Dh to go on a camping trip we had a violent rainstorm like yours...we ended up checking into a hotel at 3 in the morning!

I've done a lot of camping in my time but I don't think I would have tolerated that either. Hope you get to 'holiday' before the children return to school.

OMG, how awful that you had to leave your holiday. It looks bad though from your video.
Hope you get to go on holiday again before the summer ends.

Oh boy - I'd have packed up and gone home as well. Our weather this side of the pond is not very summery either. Summer is half over already and it hasn't even started!!!!!

Hope you get to go camping again really soon.

I have lived to talk of such experiences myself. A wind sheer, heavy rain versus one thin tent is a scary adventure. We are certain that our extra large and very heavy golden retriever saved our sorry butts, lol, truly I think we would have been blown off the island! We packed up and hauled out of there pronto! Camping is not for sissies, lol! Glad you are okay and can salvage the remaining holiday time.

It looks and sounds a lot like my july 4th camping trip...only we were camping sca style, so the wet rugs and pavilions were very frustrating.
sorry your trip didnt go as planned, but i hope you still had some fun :)

Oh, what a shame. The weather last week was particularly atrocious and I was feeling really sorry for anyone who was on holiday - especially a camping holiday. Perhaps the hot summer we've been promised will still materialise and you can have another go.

Sometimes it's best to just cut your losses. Bet your nice warm, watertight house looked good!

Oh Jane, what a rotten shame - seems like this summer may be a repeat of last year, gorgeous in June and then rubbish once the kids (and we) break up from school. Hope you manage to get away for another break before September. Don't forget if you head down this way call in for a coffee or lunch or something. I put my foot down on the camping this year (after last year's soggy episode) and we're heading to Sark to stay with Nigel's cousin who runs the Post Office there for 12 days later in August - more expensive on the ferry costs but much cheaper on the accommodation front. Just couldn't face the digging channels round the trailer-tent to direct the torrents of water away each night!

What a shame! Reminds me of the time I went to Scotland camping, as a child, and the weather was so bad, we drove south till we found better conditions. We ended up in Weston Supermere!

Good decision! Not much fun tenting in that kind of weather. I bet it was all rather scary, too. Sorry you had to cut your holiday short, Jane. Will you get another chance for a get away this summer?

Oh, what a shame. When my children were very small we camped at John O'Groats and it was so windy we had to tie the tent to the car! Not fun! hope you can try again and in better weather soon.

Oh Jane - you were brave to stay as long as you did. Life is full of adventures isn't it....

Sorry the vacation had to be cut short, but that will be one of the storie.
s for a life time...."remember the year went camping in a 'hurricane'?..... I have been through some of those, that's why we went to a camper, betterin the rain, but the wind is still freaky. Hopefuly you'll get another vacation before school starts again.

Oh my goodness! I enjoy camping but that is a bit much of the great outdoors to endure!
