I've got the first block done! Yeah!
Although I started to prepare the pieces for tradition applique, in the end I opted to do heat and bond and sew a blanket stitch in matching thread on the machine. I've decided this for 2 reasons, first I was struggling with the flower petals and secondly there is a much better chance that I will keep up this way. I forgot how quick this method is and how satisfying it is to get a block done in an afternoon.
Lastly, I had to share this notice I found on the toy box...
Guess I better find a new place for the ironing pile and the quilting magazines and the...
Until next time...

Are you doing this all in plaids Jane? If so I could pop a selection of recycled shirt bits in the post to add to the assortment if you liked
Your applique looks very pretty.
I just love the blanket stitch. It looks so pretty!
Hahaha -- I guess rules go both ways in a house huh? Cute block!
Love your first block... and you got it the right way.. I mirrored mine..lol.. long to see the flag!!!
That's really nice, I love all the fabrics. I didn't know you could do blanket stitch on the machine, I must check and see if mine will do that!
cute!!!
♥ the note.
At least it's a polite notice.
Love the block
Love and hugs Gina xxx
Great plaids...they seem to be popping up everywhere in blogdom today!
Your flower block turned out very, very nice. Good choice to do the buttonhole stitch. Wish I had done that on mine.
I am getting ready to work on these blocks too, as in I am selecting fabrics. I love the fun colors you chose! I can't decide if I am going to do the whole quilt or just a side project. I loved the finished on Julie Isa's blog and she sent me the patterns so I had better get started. She is such a sweet heart.
Gorgeous applique', but I just love the sign ... how cute lol :o).
Hugs,
Joy :o)
Okay - I love your block! The buttonhole stitch is always a favorite of mine. :o)
yay for plaids! i'm still laughing at the notice on the toybox! :oD
It looks great! Love the note on the toybox....lol
So happy to see your block - especially in brighter colors. Based on your initial post, I too ordered the book and jumped on the bandwagon. But the person I have in mind to give it too (my Mom), isn't all into the darker primitive look. Hence, it's still sitting on my nightstand. But you've inspired me with your colorful start! And yes, as much as I'd love to do it by hand/needle turn, in reality it just won't happen. Permission!
Cute note - I've saved them from when my boys were little (now they're 14 and 19!) in scrapbooks. Thanks for the inspiration!
you got busted! i love the note :)
LoL! That's you told! Naughty Mummy .. x
I just love your fabric choices - plaids make my little heart sing *s*
Great block! I really like how you used bright plaids.
And that sign is adorable!
